Quotes
About constantly moving from city to city:
"As a kid, I asked 'Why do we have to move?' and I was told, 'Because Ottawa says so,'-I always pictured Ottawa as somebody who sat behind a desk with a dart and a map saying, 'OK, you're going to go to Jakarta.'"
Did Brendan watch a lot of TV as a kid?:
"Honestly, not a lot. I traveled a lot. I grew up in parts of Europe and Canada, and my youth was pretty much spent climbing trees, sometimes falling out of them, to tell you the truth."
Just Joe Jobs
"I parked cars, I gave myself a hernia busing tables, I trussed up Christmas trees. Just-Joe jobs."
About his paper-route as a kid:
"I almost strangled myself on a paper route...I was about 11 years old, and I was a skinny little kid. I was delivering the Sunday morning newspapers, and those suckers were heavy! I'd get up at five o'clock in the morning, and the only way I could load up the canvas bag was to put it over the fence post. Then, I'd jam all of the newspapers in the bag and stick my head through the straps. Well, this particular morning the back-strap snapped--it was an old canvas bag. I remember seeing all these colorful comics falling all over my shoes, and the sucker hadme around the neck! I literally started seeing stars. I remember thinking, I'm just a kid, this can't be happening to me! I'm only making 85 bucks a month!"
About his hernia - poor Brendan!:
"I got a hernia busing tables at the Bob Seger concert...I was stuck in charge of two tables full of Hell's Angels. It was a very slippery operation, but the restaurant I was working at decided to cater it, and if you paid 50 bucks, you got food and the concert. I was supposed to be just a busboy, but they were short-handed, so the next thing I know, they had me waiting these tables. I had these two tables with big, meaty guys, with these rabid looking women, bleeding gummed women. The food was awful, it was all wrong. People were very upset by the end of it. That was another six bucks an hour-one-night job, not a steady gig!"
Christmas Trees??:
"Then, one year I cabled-up Christmas trees-I spent two days in the rain in a 185-foot Sequoia on the S.U. campus in Seattle. I had no safety lines on or anything, and I was driving one of those booms. I needed a job-my internship had expired at the theater I was working at. It was the weirdest thing. I picked up the newspaper, picked up the phone, walked down, and just employed myself! I don't know, it was weird. I remember, I was filling out my social security number and thinking, I just got a degree!"
Juggling - Our Brendan?:
"Five years ago, I was juggling in the perfume section of a department store at Christmas time-that was my job."
About his favorite muppet:
"Gonzo's a kick. It would be a toss-up between Gonzo and Animal. Actually I might have said Zoot, the jazz player. He wore those reflective shades."
Brendan's first venture into the world of music:
"The first article of rock 'n' roll paraphenalia I ever bought was a copy of Rick Dees's 'Disco Duck (part I)'--in 1976, that was rock 'n' roll. It was cutting edge."

December Third
THE DAY OF INGENUITY
Those born on December 3 let very little stand in the way of realizing their visions. Ingenious in carrying out their plans, they can be as secretive or manipulative as they need to be to get where they want to go. Yet, this is not per se a day of great personal ambition. Those born on this day, rather, are more interested in their creations, family, jobs or hobbies themselves than they are in gaining fame or power for its own sake. Perhaps to some family members' dismay, December 3 people may not be overly concerned with making a financial success of themselves.
Both craftsmanlike and creative gifts are the legacy of December 3 people. Often technically oriented, they may in fact qualify as perfectionists. Yet frequently enough they are able to strike a common chord in their fellow human beings who, respecting their dedication and single-mindedness, will often take the trouble to show interest in what they are doing. Such interest is not essential to those born on this day, who are quite able to continue working without the need for constant approval from others, and actually may even prefer being left alone.
In fact, those born on this day require a high degree of privacy, and at certain crucial junctures in their lives may need to withdraw completely from the world. During such periods (which usually come after age thirty), they may even come to be known as recluses. It is almost as if they can only achieve their maximum concentration by being alone and able to plug in to some higher source. Indeed, their accomplishments sometimes seem inexplicable without benefit of a higher power or inspirational force which acted as a guide. This is not to say, however, that December 3 people are particularly devotional or religious people; on the contrary, they tend to be highly rationalistic, perhaps even a bit cynical.
One danger for December 3 people is that they will get so caught up in their work that they will neglect their personal development. Indeed, personalities (their own or others) may not be of the greatest interest to them. Basically, in their minds, they have been given certain mental tools, talents and physical abilities to work with, and that's it. But hopefully, sooner or later, they will see the wisdom in getting to know themselves at a deeper level-searching and probing themselves with the same intensity they give to their work. If they do take this step, the quality of their work can become more universally human and less specific or technical.
NUMBERS AND PLANETS
Those born on the 3rd of the month are ruled be the number 3 and by the planet Jupiter. Those ruled by the number 3 generally try to rise to the highest positions in their particular sphere, but as mentioned, those born on December 3 display a greater interest in their work itself than the advancement of their career. For December 3 people, Jupiter rules Sagittarius as well, thus granting still greater emphasis to the expansive and optimistic nature of their personality and work habits. Those ruled be the number 3 love their independence, and thus do well in business for themselves or working as freelancers.
TAROT
The 3rd card of the Major Arcana is The Empress, symbolizing creative intelligence. She is the perfect woman, the ultra-feminine, Mother Earth nurturer, who embodies our dreams, hopes and aspirations. Her steadfast qualities are often exemplified in December 3 people, who can be faithful friends and loyal family members. This card represents positive traits of charm, grace and unconditional love, but also negative traits of vanity and affectation, as well as an intolerance for imperfection.
HEALTH
December 3 people can often neglect their health and that of their families when they get carried away with their thoughts and activities. Consequently, they should simply schedule regular checkups with a trusted physician. Very much concept-oriented, they seldom fail to see the efficacy of thinking and reading about physical and mental maladies, but they must do more than merely be informed. Their technical orientation is to be encouraged in matters of diet-showing an interest in the content of food (calories, vitamins and relative protein-carbohydrate-fat composition, for example) will aid them in the choice of a healthy menu. As far as exercise is concerned, only moderate physical activity, such as walking, bicycle riding or swimming is recommended. Usually the emotions and sexual preferences of December 3 people are intensely private matters; their modesty and need for privacy must be respected.
ADVICE
Show more interest in yourself and your personal development. Sometimes delegate responsibilities to others, without worrying. Beware of becoming too reclusive-maintain contact with the world and help those around you.
MEDITATION
If one burrows deep enough, one may come out on the other side
